Dr. Michael Chia undertook his medical degree at the University of Adelaide and completed his internship and post-graduate studies at the royal Adelaide Hospital. After spending three years in the US for his post-fellowship training, first at the National Institute of Health then at the University of Texas, Dallas, he returned to Adelaide in 1993. He is currently a Visiting Consultant and Thoracic Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
He has had over 18 years experience in Sleep and Respiratory Medicine and spent 18 months as a visiting Specialist at the Repatriation Hospital, Daw Park.
He has his private consulting rooms at Respiratory SA in Kent Town and Northern Respiratory at Elizabeth. He is also affiliated with Sleep SA at the North Eastern Community Hospital and CLM Sleep Co. home based sleep studies.
Michael provides care for patients with both Respiratory and Sleep disorders as well as any other interventional pulmonary services required for both the Public and Private sector.

Professor Mark Holmes

Professor Holmes is a Professor of Medicine at The University of Adelaide.
He is a Senior Consultant Physician in the Department of Thoracic Medicine, Royal Adelaide Hospital, a position held for 23 years. He is Head of the South Australian Lung Transplant Services and Head of the Respiratory Clinical Trials Unit of the Royal Adelaide Hospital principally examining new approaches to airways related diseases (asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis) and pulmonary fibrosis. Previously he was Head, South Australian Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit (1990-1999) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Prior to his position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital he studied for 3 years (1987-1990) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA gaining a Doctor of Medicine degree in the area of Molecular Genetics of Lung Diseases and Gene Therapy and has undertaken further studies in Gene Therapy in Alabama, USA (1998).
Professor Holmes is actively involved in basic and clinical research and has co-authored over 80 original scientific publications and had over 150 scientific presentations at national and international respiratory meetings. The main focus of his research is in the mechanisms of airway injury in lung transplant rejection and smoking related lung disease. He is Chairman of the Australian Lung Foundation Research Advisory Committee.
Professor Holmes has been practicing at Northern Respiratory in the northern part of Adelaide since 1994 and has looks forward to continuing input into the management of patients in the area in all aspects of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. Additionally, he consults in Kent Town at Respiratory SA and at the Chest Clinic.

Dr. Madhu Chandratilleke

Dr. Madhu Chandratilleke graduated in Medicine from the University of Colombo in 2001. Then she completed her MD in Medicine and was board certified as a Respiratory Physician in Sri Lanka in 2007.
After migrating to Australia in 2007, she worked in the Royal Brisbane Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital (world recognised centres for clinical care and research in Respiratory Medicine). She passed the FRACP exams in 2008 and completed her advanced training in The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide and was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in December 2011.
She completed her sleep training in Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health at the Repatriation General Hospital which is a highly regarded sleep service.
Her main research interests include non-medical management options for chronic air ways disease and ambulatory care models for diagnosis of OSA
She provides consultation services for all respiratory and sleep related issues and perform bronchoscopy and pleural procedures.

Dr. Simone Barry

Dr. Simone Barry is a Respiratory and Sleep Disorders Physician. She undertook her medical training at University of Newcastle with specialist training undertaken at St Vincent’s Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. She completed a clinical fellowship specialising in tuberculosis at Royal Adelaide Hospital before returning to Sydney to complete a PhD in the molecular aspects of tuberculosis.
Dr. Barry holds a staff specialist position at Royal Adelaide Hospital. Her clinical practice in Respiratory and Sleep medicine encompasses all aspects of both disciplines with a special interest in tuberculosis, COPD, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease.

Dr. John Wong
Paediatric Respiratory & Sleep Physician

Dr. John Wong graduated from The University of Adelaide in 2005. He commenced Paediatric training and also subspecialty training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH). In 2011 he moved to Melbourne undertaking a fellowship in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He also actively participated in research activities with the world renowned Australian Respiratory Early Surveillance Team for Cystic Fibrosis (AREST-CF) program. With his research experience he has been invited to speak both in national and international thoracic society conferences.
Dr Wong moved back to Adelaide with his family in 2013. He completed his training and received his Fellowship in Paediatrics sub specialising in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2014.
He has particular interest in patients who have:
- Respiratory conditions/complaints including:
- Chronic cough
- Asthma
- Recurrent respiratory tract infections
- Unexplained shortness of breath or breathing difficulties
- Ex premature infants with chronic lung disease
- Reduced exercise tolerance
- Chest wall deformity
- Sleep disorders including:
- Snoring
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
- Restless leg syndrome
Dr. Wong continues to have a close association with the WCH with admitting rights and participates in education and teaching in this institution.

Dr. Nur Sulaiman

Dr. Nur Sulaiman graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney before moving to Adelaide in 2011. She did her internship and basic physician training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH), Woodville.
She started her Advanced Training in Respiratory at TQEH in 2015 before being continuing on as a sleep fellow at the Sleep Health Services at Repatriation General Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre.
She is passionate about chronic lung diseases such as COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. Her other passion is of complex sleep disordered breathing and Circadian rhythm disorder.
She is currently consulting in Northern Respiratory weekly and at QE Specialist Centre fortnightly. She has admitting rights to all the Calvary-based hospitals in South Australia, Flinders Private Hospital, The Memory Hospital and Ashford Hospital.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking and doing amateur photography of beautiful landscapes.

Dr. Siew Ung Wong

Dr. Siew Ung Wong graduated from University of Melbourne in 2006. He completed his dual specialty training in Respiratory Medicine / Acute and General Medicine from various teaching hospitals in Adelaide, including 6 months of palliative care medicine training. He became a fellow with Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2016. He holds the position of Associate Clinical Lecturer with the University of Adelaide. He then undertook Clinical Fellowship in interventional pulmonology involving advanced bronchoscopy (endobronchial ultrasound, bronchial thermoplasty) and pleuroscopy at the National University Hospital Singapore.
Dr Wong is a member of several national and international thoracic societies. He sees a broad range of respiratory illness and sleep disorders, with special interest in COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, interventional pulmonology, lung cancer and pleural diseases management. He also provides consultations for various general medical conditions. He thrives for the provision of comprehensive care to all his patients ranging from diagnosis, treatment, surveillance as well as supportive care pathway.
